Healthy Relationships

There are many types of relationships we can enjoy with others:

  • Romantic partner
  • Family
  • Friends
  • Schoolmates
  • Colleagues
  • Social Media Contacts
  • Acquaintances

When we choose to build positive, meaningful, and healthy relationships, we strengthen ourselves emotionally, socially, and physically. Strong relationships allow both people to feel supported and connected but still feel independent.

To remain healthy, relationships require work, flexibility, compromise and care.

All Healthy Relationships must consistently have these 3 qualities:

Safety

You feel physically safe, emotionally safe, your reputation is safe, your possessions are safe, and your other relationships are safe.

Respect

You receive respect for your feelings, thoughts, beliefs, opinions, personal boundaries, physical body, personal possessions, and your work/contributions.

Equality

Your feelings, thoughts, needs, desires, opinions, and work are of equal value to the other person. You have equal power in your relationship.
